About this event

Good Friday. Our Old Library. Buffo’s Wake. We genuinely cannot think of a more perfect combination.

This Brighton-based twelve-legged beast has been haunting stages across the UK and Europe for years — armed with accordions, violins and what can only be described as a deeply questionable relationship with conventional music. Their sound moves through Eastern European folk, Balkan beats, Klezmer, Russian folk, punk rock and macabre cabaret — telling stories of zombies, deformity, anatomy and sweet old-fashioned horror — and somehow making it all impossibly fun to dance to.

They describe their own influences as running from Abba to Zappa. They have played Glastonbury, Boomtown, Secret Garden Party and Bestival and appeared on BBC Introducing. They have toured the world finding what their own bio describes as an “inspired, confused, sweaty, and often very drunk reception everywhere they go.”
This is not a comfortable evening of pleasant folk music. This is a carnival that comes to town, turns everything upside down and leaves at midnight. Our kind of Friday.
