About this workshop

A mindful making experience inspired by Slavic folk tradition

What if you could turn an intention into something you could hold?

Step away from the noise for an afternoon of creativity, reflection and making.

In this intimate workshop, you’ll discover the world of Motanka — symbolic dolls created by wrapping, knotting and layering fabric, without sewing or needles.

But this isn’t simply a craft workshop.

“What a wonderful experience, a real mind, body and soul space to create something that even those with basic craft skills can achieve.”
— Previous workshop participant

We’ll begin by slowing things down. Through storytelling and a guided meditation, you’ll have space to reflect on what feels important to you right now and choose an intention to carry into your making.

Then, surrounded by an abundance of beautiful fabrics, ribbons, yarns, herbs and natural materials, you’ll create your own Motanka.

There is no template for how she should look. You’ll choose the colours, textures and details that speak to you, wrapping and knotting your doll entirely by hand. No two Motankas are ever alike.

The process is tactile, absorbing and wonderfully grounding — a few hours in which there is nowhere else you need to be and nothing else you need to do.

Inspired by Slavic folk traditions and Ola’s Polish roots, the experience brings together storytelling, mindfulness, symbolism and creative making in a warm and welcoming setting.

You’ll leave with your own Motanka to take home — something made by your hands, carrying a meaning that is entirely your own.

Come as you are. Choose an intention. Make something that means something to you.

No artistic or craft experience is needed. All materials, guided meditation and refreshments are included.
